Q: I show in the Hackney Division. What affiliate memberships are required?
A: Owners and trainers of Hackney (cob-tail), Harness, and Pleasure ponies as
well as Hackney horses must be members with the American Hackney Horse Society.
Owners and trainers of Roadster ponies must be members with either the American
Hackney Horse Society or the American Road Horse and Pony Association.

Q: Which classes in the Hackney Division require measurement cards?
A: Measurement cards are required for ponies showing in the Harness and Roadster
sections of the Hackney Division. Measurement cards are only required for Hackney
(cob-tail) ponies and Pleasure ponies if the classes are divided by height.

Q: Are riding suits suitable attire for the AHHS Youth Medallion Pleasure
Pony classes?
A: No. Riding suits are prohibited in the AHHS Youth Medallion Pleasure Pony
classes. HK132.2 states “Rider attire to be dark jodhpurs, shirt, tie, fitted
or sweater vests (optional), riding boots, gloves and hair neatly held back so
the number is easily read. Hats, other than protective headgear, are also
prohibited.

Q: Is protective headgear required in the Hackney Division?
A: Within the Hackney Division, protective headgear is only required for
junior exhibitors showing in roadster pony classes (both to bike and
under saddle). See HK134.2, GR801.4, GR801.6 and GR801.7.

Q: Are mouth controls allowed? If so, what is acceptable?
A: Yes. The Hackney Division allows mouth controls per HK112.2. Acceptable
mouth controls would include tongue ties, lip cords, etc.

Q: Is it legal to adjust the overcheck on a pleasure pony during the line-up?
A: No. USEF Rule HK124.5 and HK127.5 clearly prohibits the adjustment of the overcheck
during the lineup of pleasure ponies. However, if an additional workout is
called, the ponies remaining in the line-up may be unchecked.

Q: My pony has won three ribbons at USEF licensed competitions in roadster
classes operating under the Roadster Division. Can I show my pony as a novice
pony in roadster classes operating under the Hackney Division?
A: No. Per USEF general rule GR135.9 and Hackney rule HK105.4, ribbons won in
the Roadster Pony section of the Roadster Division will count towards the
maiden/novice/limit status of Hackney Roadster ponies.
