He brings with him a wealth of knowledge about para-equestrian dressage and dressage trainer/coach development and in 2019 launched the USEF Para-Equestrian Dressage Coaches Program. During his tenure at the helm of the para-equestrian discipline, Assouline has guided his teams to numerous accomplishments, including:

  • February 2021 - Assouline was named the 2020 Paralympic Coach of the Year across all disciplines by the United States Olympic and Paralympic committee (USOC and USOPC).

His work with the Centers of Excellence (COE) directly ties in with the aim to grow and develop para-equestrian dressage in the U.S. Prior to joining US Equestrian, he spent nearly 12 years as head coach to the multi-medal winning British para-equestrian dressage program where he led the Great Britain athletes to four silver and seven gold medals at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, a record-breaking result for Great Britain para dressage athletes. As such, Michel was awarded the Mussabini Medal, a sports award recognizing British coaches, and was inducted into the UK Coaching Hall of Fame.

Tom O'Mara

Tom O'Mara

Tom O'Mara has been working on the institutional trading floor of a number of global investment banks since his first internship in the summer of 1979. After receiving a B.S. in Business Administration from Villanova University in 1984, Tom matriculated at the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business and received his M.B.A. in 1986. Additionally, Tom currently holds a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter as well as previously holding FINRA registrations for the Series 3, 7, 9, 10, 24, 55, and 63.

Tom spent the next five years working in Convertible Securities at Lehman Brothers. In 1991, Tom joined Credit Suisse First Boston. During this tenure, Tom traded and managed equity derivative teams both within the U.S. and globally. Finally, due to his experience and ability to manage risk through the extreme market moves and cycles from 1986 - 2003, Tom was asked to be Chief Risk Officer of the Equity Division. Tom spent time developing a number of start-up alternative investment management platforms and eventually returned to the capital markets as Co-Head of the Equity division at Cowen and Company.

Over the years, the five O’Mara riders, Tom’s wife Liz, and their children Casey, Abby, Meg, and TJ have had many horses in many divisions. Together with his wife, Tom owned a large working hay farm in upstate New York for a number of years. They supplied much of the hay to the Vermont Summer Festival for many years. Tom and his family actively managed Walstib Stables in Middletown, New Jersey as farm owners and leased it to their trainer, who ran a very large and successful hunter/jumper training facility for a number of years. Two of his three daughters rode NCAA Collegiate Equestrian for the University of Georgia and transitioned from junior hunter, jumper and equitation Champions into NCEA All-Americans.

As a recent member of the NCEA National Advisory Board, Tom created the NCEA Junior Hunt Seat Medal 3’3” class for junior riders to get a taste of NCAA Collegiate riding while still junior riders.

Tom also volunteers within his community as a Board member of the Ocala Horse Alliance and the Community Foundation of Ocala/Marion County.
