1. What horses/ponies need a measurement card?
If the horse/pony is entered in a class where horse/pony height is a factor, the horse/pony must have a measurement card to present to the secretary at the competition.
2. What are the height requirements?
Hunter/Jumper/Welsh: Small up to 12.2, Medium up to 13.2, Large up to 14.2
Dressage/Combined Driving: Up to 148 cm barefoot, 149 cm with shoes
Arabian: Up to 14.2
Hackney: Up to 14.2
Harnes: Up to 12.2
Roadster Ponies to Bike: 52 inches and under
Roadster Ponies to Bike: 50 to 52 inches
Roadster Ponies Under Saddle or to Wagon: 54 inches and under
Saddlebred: Up to 14.3
Shetland: Up to 46 inches
3. Does the owner have to be a USEF Member to receive a measurement card?
Yes, the owner must be an active competing member with USEF.
4. When will I receive the measurement card?
A card will be emailed to the owner within 45 days. A verification will be emailed to the owner by the Measuring Official to use until the card is received. Owners will be notified if there is a problem with the measurement.
5. My horse/pony has been measured by the previous owner. Do I need to re-measure it?
No, you do not need to measure your horse/pony again unless the previous card was a temporary card and has expired. The measurement card stays with the horse/pony and will be emailed to the new owner upon transfer.
6. Where do I measure my horse/pony?
Measurements must take place at a USEF Licensed competition where the horse/pony is entered to compete, and a USEF approved measurement stick must be used. The measurement will be performed by a Licensed Steward or Technical Delegate and another official. Please contact the show office for scheduling.
7. Who should present my Horse/Pony?
For Hunter/Jumper/Welsh, the trainer must present the animal. For all other Breeds/Disciplines, a person over 18 years of age must present the animal.
8. How do I prepare for the measurement?
The animal should be calm, exercised and accustomed to the application of a measuring stick. The feet should be prepared and shoes pulled if necessary and still jog sound when required.

9. What happens if my horse/pony measures out of a height section and I do not believe the measurement is correct?
