ParaEquestrian Athlete Margo O'Callahan Passes Away

by Sarah Evers | Dec 22, 2005, 10:18 AM

It is with great sadness that the USEF ParaEquestrian community acknowledges the tragic death of Margo O’Callahan, of Seattle, WA. O’Callahan was killed in a car accident on Sunday, December 18, near the Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center, where she rode for much of her adult life. O’Callahan’s dog, Eddie, was also killed in the accident, which is still under investigation at this time.

Overcoming multiple strokes and an accident which left her with a broken hip, O’Callahan was determined to have a successful riding career, in spite of her disabilities. She did just that, competing in the national and international ParaEquestrian scene. One of the highlights of her illustrious career includes representing the United States in the Pacific Rim International Dressage Championships, where she took the Gold medal in musical freestyle.

O’Callahan is survived by two sisters, one of whom she lived with.

“I never met so much determination and positive attitude in such a small package in my life,” shared Mary Lutz, Director of ParaEquestrian Activities at the USEF. “Her laugh and smile will stay with me always.”

In lieu of flowers, remembrances of O'Callahan may be sent to:

Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center
19802 NE 148th Street
Woodinville, WA 98077

O'Callahan's funeral mass will take place at Saint Brendan’s Catholic Church, 10051 NE 195th St., Bothell, WA, on Friday, December 23, at 1 p.m., to be followed by a reception at the church hall.
