Funds Still Available to Help Horses Affected by Natural Disasters

by By Amelia Geran | Jan 19, 2006, 11:50 AM

The AAEP Foundation, Inc., announced the availability of additional funds to aid horses affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, as well as other natural disasters. The Foundation’s Equine Disaster Relief Fund was established last September to assist groups or individuals that are treating, housing, transporting or feeding horses that have been impacted by a natural disaster.

Donations of $25,000 each have been made thus far by the Foundation to the Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association Equine Committee Foundation and the Mississippi Veterinary Medical Association’s Animal Disaster Relief Fund. The Foundation remains in contact with veterinarians and other equine
organizations in the affected areas in order to continually assess long-term needs.

According to Foundation Advisory Committee Chairman Dr. Nathaniel White, “Thousands of horses were impacted by the hurricanes, and the Foundation wants groups in the Gulf Coast region to know that we stand ready to help them as they continue their extraordinary care of these animals."

To apply for funding, visit the AAEP Foundation website at
www.aaep.org/f_apply_funding.php to download an application. For additional information, contact Amelia Geran, coordinator for the AAEP Foundation, at (800) 443-0177 or [email protected].

Donations continue to be accepted for the Foundation’s Equine Disaster Relief Fund in order to assist with future disasters. To make a donation, visit the AAEP Foundation website at www.aaepfoundation.org.
