This weekend, the Red Hills International Horse Trials is featuring the first Adequan USEA Gold Cup qualifier for the 2014 calendar year. In anticipation of an exciting year for the Gold Cup series, the USEA has adjusted the qualification requirements for the series Championships at the Texas Rose Horse Park in Tyler, Texas.

In response to requests from Advanced-level competitors, the USEA will allow qualified riders to compete any Advanced-level horse in the Championships. Any rider that has completed a designated Gold Cup divison for the 2014 series (see schedule below) with no more than 20 cross-country jump penalties may enter the Championships on any Advanced-level mount.  The rider does not need to have achieved the qualification riding the horse entered into the Championships.

“This adjustment will allow our top eventers a chance to showcase some of their younger up-and-coming mounts that are ready to compete at the Advanced level, or their older mounts that are in the twilight years of their upper level careers,” said Jo Whitehouse, USEA CEO. “It will also offer our top riders another opportunity to compete for the $40,000 in prize money offered at the Championships.”

To date 38 riders have qualified to compete at the 2014 Championships, having competed at either the Plantation Field Horse Trial, or Woodside International Horse Trials in the Fall of 2013.
