Alfano began her partnership with Candid in 2013, where they dominated the Pre-Green Incentive classes across the nation. The brown Holsteiner continued his winning ways throughout the winter, and now has made his mark at Old Salem. Candid was only the third horse that the professional rider has bought for herself.
Their partnership is apparent as they nab championships at every show in which they compete. Candid's performance in the Green Conformation Hunters caught the judges' eyes as on the first day of competition Alfano guided the 6-year-old gelding to the first and third over fences, as well as two blue ribbons in the under saddle and model. They returned to take two additional first place ribbons on the second day to clinch the championship.
One of the more recent mounts to the string of SBS Farms horses, Counting Stars, proved himself in the First Year Green Working Hunter division with top results. Alfano guided the Westphalian gelding to the first, second, third and fourth place finishes over fences, while also capturing the first place in the under saddle.
Billie Steffee's Maggie May also rode to top ribbons in the Second Year Green/High Performance Hunter division. Going against illustrious barn mate Jersey Boy, Maggie May took home to second place ribbons over fences, and the first in the under saddle. Jersey Boy showed to two blues over fences, and is returning to top form as the preparations begin for the steadily approaching $10,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby to be held at Old Salem Farm on May 17, 2014. Jersey Boy was awarded the division's championship, while Maggie May earned the reserve championship.
Helen Lenahan's Me Again also earned good ribbons in the Pre-Green 3'3" Hunter divisions. Alfano guided the young talent to a triad of third place ribbons. They also rode to the fourth place finish in the Pre-Green Incentive Stake Class.
