Lexington, Ky. – The 2014 USEF National One-Star Eventing Championships will be decided this weekend at the Hagyard Midsouth Three-Day Event & Team Challenge in Lexington, Ky., with riders vying for top honors. Running from October 16-18 at the Kentucky Horse Park, 38 horse-and-rider combinations will compete for a national title.

In the USEF National One-Star Championship, riders age 22 or over hope to be crowned champion and receive the Richard Collins Trophy. In a field of 24 combinations, Shanon Baker (Hollis, N.H.) has two chances at taking home the win with her own Ballingowan Zeal, a seven-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding, and Lansdownne, an eight-year-old Thoroughbred gelding, with whom she finished first and eight, respectively, in the Morven Park Fall  Horse Trials CIC1* earlier this month.

A field of 14 riders between the ages of 14 and 21 will compete for the Harry T. Peters Trophy in the USEF National Junior and Young Rider One-Star Championship. The 2013 Reserve Champion Woods Baughman (Lexington, Ky.) hopes to go one better this year with Montesquieu, a seven-year-old Thoroughbred gelding. The pair was third in the CCI1* at the Fox River Valley Pony Club Horse Trials this summer.

The competition will begin Thursday with dressage starting at 12:40pm ET. Cross country will take place Friday beginning at 1:45pm, and the competition will finish up Saturday with the show jumping at 10:30 am.
