Lisbon, Portugal – The Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup presented by Baloubet de Rout at CSIO3* Lisbon took place this afternoon with nine nations taking part. The U.S. produced a solid result, finishing in fifth place on 21 faults. Having already secured a spot in the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup Final, the U.S. was represented by a talented team of promising combinations competing on their first U.S team: Heather Caristo-Williams, Alex Granato, Paige Johnson, and Denise Wilson. Spain led the way from the start, producing three clear trips in round one to win on four faults. They were followed closely in second by the home team of Portugal who finished on nine faults. France and Belgium tied for third on 14 faults.

Round One
Led by Chef d’Equipe DiAnn Langer, the U.S. team drew fifth in the order. Pathfinding for the U.S. team was Granato (Salt Lake City, Utah) with Page Tredennick’s Mullaghdrin Rado. The pair was clear over the 12-obstacle course designed by Guilherme Jorge. Next to go was Wilson (Dousman, Wis.) and Blue Gate Farm LLC’s Winter who added four faults with a rail down at fence nine. Johnson (The Plains, Va.) collected 12 faults with Salamander Farm’s Dakota. Anchoring the U.S. team, Caristo-Williams (Saugerties, N.Y.) and her parents’, Holly and Ralph Caristo, Evening Star, produced a brilliant clear round to send the U.S. into round two on just four faults, tied for second with Great Britain and Ireland.

Round Two
As always, the second round proved to be exciting with a real shake up of the leaderboard. Granato was not able to duplicate his first round success and added 13 faults. Going in with determination, Wilson put a clear round on the board, followed by Johnson who added 13 faults and Caristo-Williams who had a foot down in the water to add four faults.
