Sally Ike has been named Managing Director of Show Jumping Sport Programs for the USEF. She will continue to be based at the Gladstone, NJ, office and will report directly to Jim Wolf, Executive Director of Sport Programs.
In addition to being an experienced international competitor, Ike has 17 years of experience as a discipline director and Chef de Mission with the international teams programs. She competed for the U.S Equestrian Teams in three-day eventing, and was a member of the 1968 Olympic Eventing Squad. In addition to her eventing experience, she also competed in point-to-point, racing, hunters, dressage and show jumping. In 1989, she was appointed the Director of Three-Day Eventing and Show Jumping for the USET, and has served as the Director of Show Jumping since 1993. Ike served as the Show Jumping Team Leader at every Olympic, Pan American and World Equestrian Games and World Cup Final since 1990, as well as serving as either Chef de Mission or Co-Chef de Mission at the 1994 and 1998 World Equestrian Games. Ike was the Director of Vaulting Activities from 2001-2004.
Ike is a past member of the USEF Eventing and Jumper Committees and a current member of the Drugs and Medications Committee, and a Director of the Show Jumping Hall of Fame. She is a USEF “R” Eventing Judge and Technical Delegate and “r” Jumper Judge, as well as an FEI Chief Steward for Show Jumping and Eventing and Author/Panelist for the USEF Eventing Training and Continuing Education Programs for Licensed Eventing Officials. A Pony Club graduate, Ike has been a Governor and National Examiner of the U.S. Pony Clubs, District Commissioner of the Somerset Hills Pony Club and Regional Supervisor for the New Jersey Region. She also served as secretary of the Essex Fox Hounds in New Jersey from 1972-1989.
In addition, she has designed Show Jumping courses,primarily for eenting since the mid '70s, including many of the premier competitions, including Fair Hill CCI***, Radnor CCI**, Jersey Fresh CCI**/***, and Red Hills CIC-W***.
“Sally’s experience speaks for itself, but it is her personal dedication to equestrian sport,including the development of young riders, that makes her the ideal person to lead our show jumping programs,” said John Long, Chief Executive Officer.
Ike lives in Oldwick, NJ. She has two daughters--Beth, 31 and Sara, 28.
Her responsibilities include coordination of all USEF national and international activities for the sport of show jumping.
