U.S. Dressage Successful in European Competition at Rotterdam and Hagen

Rotterdam, The Netherlands & Hagen, Germany - The United States had successful showings from both teams and individuals today at the CDIO5* and CDIU25 Rotterdam in The Netherlands and the CDIOY Hagen in Germany. In Rotterdam, the CDIO5* team consisting of Shelly Francis and Patricia Stempel's Doktor, Charlotte Jorst and Kastel Denmark’s Kastel’s Nintendo, Arlene Page and her own Woodstock, and Kathleen Raine and Jennifer Mason, David Wightman and her own Breanna ended the day in third place in Nations Cup competition on a team average score of 70.293%, behind only The Netherlands and Sweden. First to compete was Jorst and Kastel’s Nintendo who scored a 69.540%. Next in the order was Page and Woodstock who received a team high score of 71.360% which landed them in sixth place at the end of the Grand Prix. Third in the order for the U.S. was Francis and Doktor, scoring a 68.660%, followed by Raine and Breanna who scored a 69.980%.

Chef d'Equipe Christine Traurig was pleased with the results of the day’s efforts as the team looks forward to Saturday and the completion of team competition. Page and Raine will contest the Grand Prix Freestyle while Francis and Jorst compete in the Grand Prix Special, the scores from both tests will be used in the final team score calculations.

Tomorrow, CDI3* competitors Francis and Patricia Stempel’s Danilo, Brian Hafner and Rebecca Hafner and his own Lombardo LHF, and Arlene Page and her own Alina will perform in the Grand Prix. 

The U.S. U25 duo of Genay Vaughn and Starr Vaughn Equestrian’s Donarweiss GGF and Chase Hickok and Hyperion Farm’s Sagacious HF had a great first day under the watchful eye of USEF Developing Coach Debbie McDonald. Vaughn received a score of 66.791% and eighth place overall in the U25 Grand Prix, and Hickok scored a 65.744% and eleventh place in the standings. These young stars will contest the U25 Grand Prix Freestyle tomorrow.

At Hagen in Germany, rising stars Catherine Chamberlain and Kimberly Pribble's Avesto Van Weltevreden and Ayden Uhlir and her own Sjapoer well represented the U.S. With the help of USEF Youth Coach George Williams, the young team was sixth in CDIOY competition with scores of 68.596% and 64.693% from Chamberlain and Uhlir respectively. The pair will compete again tomorrow in the exciting qualifier for Sunday’s individual final.
