Lake Placid, New York - The 46th annual Lake Placid Horse Show, Presented by Sea Shore Stables, LLC, got underway on Tuesday. Many of the nation's best hunter and jumper riders have arrived at the North Elba Show Grounds as the Lake Placid Horse Shows are again hosting three fantastic weeks of top horse show competition beginning at 8:00 AM daily.  The Lake Placid Horse Show runs June 23-28, followed by the I Love New York Horse Show June 30 - July 5, and the Adirondack Horse Show July 7-11.

Voted one of the nation's top ten horse shows in 2014 by the National Show Hunter Hall of Fame, the Lake Placid Horse Shows feature more than 100 classes of competition each week for all levels of competition ranging from young children on lead-line ponies to Olympic medalists competing in the grand prix jumper ring. All three weeks are USEF 'AA' rated for hunters and 6* rated for Jumpers. In addition, the show offers more than $750,000 in prize money, and boasts an immaculate world-class venue in a vacation-type setting, all of which make it a favorite stop on the nation's hunter-jumper horse show circuit.

Top riders like Laura Chapot, who dominated competition last year and won the Richard and Diana Feldman Perpetual Challenge Trophy for Excellence, are on hand to compete in the horse shows' open division and Grand Prix events.

"There is so much excitement in the air!" said Richard M. Feldman, Chairman of the Lake Placid Horse Show Association. "It's such a wonderful feeling when the horses, riders, owners, grooms, family and friends arrive at the show grounds each year. We are delighted to have so many familiar faces return and we enjoy welcoming new ones, who are now immediately part of the Lake Placid Horse Show family!"

Last year the Lake Placid Horse Shows premiered two major features - a third week of competition, the Adirondack Horse Show, was added, featuring the $100,000 Adirondack Grand Prix; as well as brand new, top-of-the-line footing in all four rings. Both of these additions received big applause from the competitors. A total of 1,200 horses along with 3,600 exhibitors and staff attended the three weeks of the Lake Placid Horse Shows last year, and they have returned in force this year to compete for the top prize money which was also increased last year.

You won't want to miss out on several traditional favorites at the Lake Placid Horse Shows. The Equestrian Window Decorating Contest is always a favorite during the Lake Placid Horse Show, so take a walk down Main Street to enjoy the equestrian-inspired window decorations by the Lake Placid Village shop owners. They really get into the horse show spirit!

Another annual favorite is the 23rd annual Doggie Costume Contest, presented by Animal Planet and The Brown Dog Deli & Wine Bar, which will place this year on Sunday, July 5 at 12:00 noon during the I Love New York Horse Show in a special area next to the Richard M Feldman Grand Prix Field.  This contest is fun for everyone as dressed-up dogs compete for a variety of awards including the Lulu Perpetual Trophy for the funniest costume. All people with leashed dogs in costume are admitted to the horse show free of charge that day.

The 23rd annual Horse Club Junior Day, sponsored by Hannaford Supermarkets, will take place during the I love New York Horse Show on Friday, July 3 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 pm. This special event invites local Pony Clubbers, 4-H members and riding clubs to participate in a fun-filled day at the horse shows.  The day includes activities such as a stable tour, jump course walk, farrier visit, and question-and-answer period. There will also be a raffle, giveaways, and an autograph session with a top Grand Prix rider. The cost to attend the event is $5.00 per participant, and lunch (pizza) is included. There is no entry fee for chaperones, but there is a fee of $4.00 per chaperone if they choose to eat with the participants. Space is limited to the first 100 people, and reservations are on a first come, first serve basis.

The Lake Placid Horse Shows offer some of the best shopping in the Adirondacks. Local artisans and products are featured along with, equine related shops, clothing, apparel and photography.
