USET Foundation Names Authentic as 2006 Limited Edition Breyer Model Horse

by By Phelps Media Group | May 18, 2006, 2:04 PM

The United States Equestrian Team (USET) Foundation is pleased to announce that their 2006 Limited Edition Breyer Model horse will be based on show jumper and Olympic Team Gold Medalist Authentic.

Authentic, an 11-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding, is ridden by Beezie Madden, and together they have accumulated huge victories in the past two years. Authentic was a member of the 2004 Athens Olympic Gold Medal Team. In 2005, his clutch performance in Aachen, Germany, secured the victory for the United States in the Nations’ Cup and helped the U.S. win the Samsung Super League series. Authentic also posted wins in the Atco Power Queen Elizabeth Cup, the $75,000 New Albany Classic Invitational, and the $200,000 Budweiser American Invitational.

“I’m honored that they picked him to be the Breyer horse, and I think he deserves it,” Madden said with a smile. “He’s got a great personality, and he’s a pleasure to have in my barn. He’s taken me to an Olympic Games and hopefully we’ll go to even more championships after that. He’s a once in a lifetime horse for me.”

Beezie and John Madden bought Authentic in partnership with Elizabeth Busch Burke in 2001 as a green horse. The Team Authentic syndicate was formed to get Authentic to the 2004 Olympic Games, and current owner, Abigail Wexner, purchased Authentic in the summer of 2005. “It’s such an honor to own Authentic and to have Beezie ride him. I’m so glad we were able to keep them together,” Wexner commented.

Having Authentic as a Breyer model is “like a childhood dream,” she added. “It’s wonderful.” Wexner owned Breyer horses as a child instead of dolls, she said. Her own four children have models now, and they even helped pick out which mold looked most like Authentic.

In the past, the USET Foundation models have sold out quickly and become true collectibles for horse enthusiasts. The model will first be available on October 8, 2006.
