Gijón, Spain – It was a tough day for the Hermès U.S. Show Jumping Team at CSIO5* Gijón, but the athletes gained valuable expereince on the international stage. The team consisting of Candice King, Audrey Coulter, Ali Wolff, and Hardin Towell were one of 10 teams competing in the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup on Saturday.

King (Wellington, Fla.) and Kismet 50, Bellissimo LLC’s 2001 Belgian Warmblood mare, had the unenviable position of being the first combination to take on Avelino Rodriguez Miravalles’ course. The pair ran into trouble at the triple and elected to retire shortly after. Coulter (San Francisco, Calif.) rode a smooth round on Capital Colnardo, a 2005 Holsteiner stallion owned by Copernicus Stables, LLC, just tapping the plank fence at 11 for four faults.
Wolff (New Albany, Ohio) also collected four faults at fence 11 in her round with Casall, Blacklick Bend Farm’s 2005 Holsteiner gelding. Riding in the anchor position, Towell (Camden, S.C.) started off well with Emilie de Diamant A S, a 2004 Belgian Warmblood mare owned by Jennifer Gates, LLC, but had 12 faults in the later half of the course. Following the first round, the U.S. team was 10th with 20 faults, thus not returning as one of the top eight teams for the second round.

France won the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup with a total of four faults, while Great Britain and Ireland tied for second with eight faults.
