Centenary College will be hosting the 39th Annual ANRC National Intercollegiate Equitation Championships April 15-17, 2016 at the Centenary College Equestrian Center in Long Valley, New Jersey.  Over 60 riders representing eleven colleges and universities will compete in four phases over the course of three days.   Judges for this year’s event will be Dacia Funkhouser-Johnson of Monticello, FL and Todd Karn of Fayetteville, NY.

Colleges and Universities may enter a team of two or three horse and rider combinations and individual riders to compete in the Novice and/or National Divisions in three riding phases judged on hunter seat equitation and a written phase based on riding theory and stable management.  The same horse and rider pair must compete in all three riding phases and all competitors must take the written test.

The competition kicks off with a written examination based on the ANRC Nationals Intercollegiate Equitation Championship Rule Book and the USHJA TCP Study Guide. The mounted phases include a Program Ride comprised of the USEF hunter seat equitation tests, a Derby Phase over a course with approximately 10-12 natural fences and a USEF Medal type course with approximately 8-10 fences.  Riders are scored based on equitation and overall performance.  In all three riding phases, the competitor should demonstrate a soft, precise, working performance of the required test/course, exhibiting cooperation between horse and rider. The competitor should also demonstrate a good position and a thorough knowledge of intermediate level aids and control techniques as outlined in the Rider Certification section at www.ANRC.org.

Primary sponsors of the competition are Horseflight and the USEF.  In addition, a number of sponsorship providers have contributed to the anticipated success of this annual event, including Weatherbeeta, Beval’s Saddlery, Pepsi, Zoetis, Jill Taylor of Cottonwood Farm, RoNetco, MWI, and Horseman’s Outlet.
