by USEF Communications | May 19, 2016, 5:13 PM

Compiegne, France – Competition at CDI Compiegne began today with the CDI3* Grand Prix. The field of 43 combinations included U.S. representatives Shelly Francis and Arlene “Tuny” Page, who are members of the Dressage Squad for European Observation Events. The competition is a designated observation event as part of the selection process for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Dressage Team and will include CDIO5* competition for The Dutta Corp. U.S. Dressage Team, beginning Saturday.

Page (Wellington, Fla.) and her own Woodstock, a 2003 KWPN gelding, were the final combination down centerline. Page was able to manage Woodstock’s moments of tensions to deliver a solid test highlighted by an expressive extended trot and consistent passage work, scoring 68.380%, landing the combination in 10th place.

Entering the arena first for the U.S. was Francis and Patricia Stempel’s Danilo, a 2004 Hanoverian gelding. The pair had a strong start to their test; however, a costly error of course during the canter tour resulted in a total score of 66.160%, placing the pair 21st.

Competition in the CDI3* continues for Francis and Page with the Grand Prix Special on Friday.
