U.S. Driving Team Seventh after CAIO4*-H4 Marathon Phase at CHIO Aachen

Aachen, Germany –The CAIO4*-H4 Nations Cup competition continued on Saturday at CHIO Aachen with the marathon phase. Under the guidance of Chef d’Equipe Ed Young, the U.S. Driving Team of Chester Weber and Allison Stroud now sits in seventh place with a total of 401.640 after the second phase of the competition. Weber is the top-ranked U.S. athlete, lying in third place on a score of 158.40. The Netherlands leads the team competition with a total of 311.760. Hungary moved into second on a total of 347.750, and Germany is a close third on 348.300.

Weber (Ocala, Fla.) and his and Jane Clark’s team of KWPN geldings had a lovely dressage test on Thursday to put them near the top of the leaderboard in second. Weber drove Amadeus, Boris W, Boy W, and Uniek in the marathon phase, attacking the Dr. Wolfgang Asendorf–designed course. The team accumulated 120.06 in penalties, placing fifth in the marathon for a two-phase total of 158.40. Weber will enter Sunday’s final phase in third place.

Stroud (West Grove, Pa.) had a respectable dressage test with Willow Star LLC’s team of KWPN geldings in her CHIO Aachen debut for a score of 56.93. In the marathon, Stroud drove Anesco, Antonio, Olando, and Ulco, gaining valuable experience and taking her time through the obstacles, adding 186.31 penalties to give her a total of 243.24.

As a two-member team, the U.S. does not have the ability to drop a score.

Boyd Exell (AUS) maintained his individual lead and now sits on a total of 146.73. IJsbrand Chardon (NED) moved into second with a two-phase total of 155.20.
