Weber (Ocala, Fla.) and his and Jane Clark’s team of KWPN geldings had a lovely dressage test on Thursday to put them near the top of the leaderboard in second. Weber drove Amadeus, Boris W, Boy W, and Uniek in the marathon phase, attacking the Dr. Wolfgang Asendorf–designed course. The team accumulated 120.06 in penalties, placing fifth in the marathon for a two-phase total of 158.40. Weber will enter Sunday’s final phase in third place.
Stroud (West Grove, Pa.) had a respectable dressage test with Willow Star LLC’s team of KWPN geldings in her CHIO Aachen debut for a score of 56.93. In the marathon, Stroud drove Anesco, Antonio, Olando, and Ulco, gaining valuable experience and taking her time through the obstacles, adding 186.31 penalties to give her a total of 243.24.
As a two-member team, the U.S. does not have the ability to drop a score.
Boyd Exell (AUS) maintained his individual lead and now sits on a total of 146.73. IJsbrand Chardon (NED) moved into second with a two-phase total of 155.20.
