When the dust settled after the record-breaking NRHA Derby Finals on May 20, 2006, in Oklahoma City, OK, one more milestone was added to the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) record books. Topsail Whiz became the second stallion to achieve the NRHA Four Million Dollar Sire distinction. Owned by Bob Loomis Quarter Horses, Inc., of Marietta, OK, Topsail Whiz first became an NRHA Million Dollar Sire in 2001. In 2003, he earned Two Million Dollar Sire status and was inducted into the NRHA Hall of Fame. In 2004, he became a Three Million Dollar Sire. At the 2006 NRHA Derby, Topsail Whiz's offspring earned enough for him to join Hollywood Dun It on the very short NRHA Four Million Dollar Sire list.
Topsail Whiz is a third generation NRHA Hall of Famer. He's by NRHA Million Dollar Sire and NRHA Hall of Famer Topsail Cody who, with Loomis riding, won the 1980 NRHA Futurity. Topsail Cody is by NRHA Hall of Famer Joe Cody, a prolific foundation sire for horses destined to compete in the NRHA show pen. "To me, Whiz is a product of one of the greatest genetic families in the reining horse industry," says Loomis.
Topsail Whiz first became a familiar name to reiners through his success in the NRHA show pen. With owner Bob Loomis riding, Topsail Whiz was third in the 1990 NRHA Futurity. In 1991, the pair won the Lazy E Classic and placed fourth in the NRHA Derby. Topsail Whiz has NRHA Lifetime Earnings just shy of $50,000.
In the breeding shed, Topsail Whiz demonstrated his prepotency as a sire and reining competitors and fans around the world became familiar with his get, who have excelled at virtually every major NRHA, American Quarter Horse Association, United States Equestrian Federation, United States Equestrian Team and International Equestrian Federation reining competitions. Among Whiz's highest earning and most recognizable offspring are The Great Whiz ($256,470.21), Easy Otie Whiz ($209,457.89), Whizard Jac ($155,168.27), Topgun Whiz ($145,571.66), Remin Whiz ($145,686.23), West Coast Whiz ($126,865.68), Whiz N Tag Chex ($113,355.99), Wrangle Whiz ($114,878.28), Holymasterwhiz ($91,456.47) and Conquistador Whiz ($90,024.86).
Understandably, Bob Loomis, forever linked with his legendary stallion, feels strongly about Topsail Whiz; "I've been doing this a long time and Topsail Whiz is just different than any other horse."
