Dr. Hillman to Speak at American Horse Council's Issues Forum

The American Horse Council (AHC) has confirmed Dr. Bob Hillman as a speaker for the AHC Issues Forum, which will be held on September 25 in Austin, TX. Dr. Hillman currently serves as the Texas state veterinarian and executive director of the Texas Animal Health Commission. He is also currently the chair of the USAHA Committee on Livestock Identification and serves on the Secretary’s Advisory Subcommittee for the National Animal Identification System.

“We are excited about Dr. Hillman’s participation in this informative meeting,” said Jay Hickey, AHC President. “Dr. Hillman will be presenting as part of the afternoon Equine Identification and the National Animal Identification System session, and will sit on the 'Ask the Experts' panel. He will be discussing where Texas currently stands with the NAIS and any plans Texas may have for participation in the system.”

Dr. Hillman graduated from Texas A&M University's Veterinary School in 1971 and worked in a private practice in Northwest Texas and Southern Idaho during the '70s. In 1981, he went to work for the Idaho State Department of Agriculture and served as assistant state veterinarian for nine years, and in 1990 became state veterinarian and administrator of the Division of Animal Industries for the Idaho State Department of Agriculture, where he served until coming back to Texas as the state veterinarian in April of 2003.

The AHC Issues Forum will be held on Monday, September 25, 2006, at the Marriott Austin Airport South from 8:45 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Rooms at the Marriott Austin Airport South will be held for the nights of Sunday, September 24, to Monday, September 25, at a rate of $129 per night.
