Morgan Enthusiasts Prepare for 2006 Grand National and World Championship Morgan Horse Show

by By Michael LiCalsi | Sep 14, 2006, 3:20 PM

For Morgan enthusiasts, October means more than just the introduction of fall; it also features the Grand National and World Championship Morgan Horse Show held annually at the Oklahoma Fairgrounds in Oklahoma City. The Grand National promises to be another spectacular event this year, taking place October 7-14.

Each year the American Morgan Horse Association (AMHA) selects one USEF Class “A” Morgan Show from each region to be its American Morgan Horse Association (AMHA) Regional Championship Show. It is at these shows that the best horses from all parts of the region and surrounding areas compete for regional titles and the opportunity to qualify for the Grand National and World Championship Morgan Horse Show.

Some of the best and brightest young equestrians and their Morgan horses will be competing for Gold medals in six different seats, and one youth AMHA member will be named Youth of the Year by the American Morgan Horse Association, earning the right to travel to another country as the ambassador to the Morgan breed.

For 25 consecutive years, the Morgan Grand National has been a successful part of the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds list of annual events, featuring more than 1,100 entries from across the country, Canada and around the globe.

Competition begins Saturday, October 7, with three shows daily through Saturday, October 14. Show times will be at 9:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. each day. Admission is free throughout the week with a nominal charge for weekend performances. Tickets can be purchased from the State Fair Arena Box Office and all Oklahoma Ticket Outlets.

Prize lists are available online at www.morgangrandnational.com or by contacting Peggy Hatfield at [email protected]. For more information on the Grand National and the Morgan horse, visit www.morganhorse.com.
