The Reining Horse Sports Foundation (RHSF) is helping dreams of a college education come true for five National Reining Horse Youth Association (NRHyA) members. The RHSF recently awarded five $1,000 scholarships to help the high school seniors further excel in their future careers and National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) competition.

RHSF President Frank Costantini said it’s an honor to recognize the hard work of these youth members. “The RHSF is proud to award these scholarships to such outstanding individuals," he continued. "With the ‘Year of the Youth’ beginning this year, the youth program for the NRHA has made a huge leap forward to really promote the sport among young competitors throughout the world. Hopefully this will be just a start for the overall promotion for not only the scholarship program but recognition of the youth programs the NRHA has to offer.”

The 2006 NRHyA Youth Scholarship winners are Trevor Dare, Callan Driscoll, Ashley Fuchs, Russell Truesdell and Josh Tyler.

Dare of Hilliard, OH, is attending the University of Findlay in Findlay, OH, and majoring in Equine Business Management. Callan Driscoll of Butte, MT, was also awarded a $1,000 scholarship by the RHSF and is 18-years-old and now attending Creighton University in Omaha, NE. She’s majoring in biology.

NRHyA President Ashley Fuchs from Canfield, OH, was also awarded with a scholarship. Fuchs said, “As a NRHyA member, we are so fortunate to have this opportunity, and I am really grateful to win this scholarship.” Fuchs is a freshman majoring in biology at the University of Akron in Akron, OH

The RHSF awarded another $1,000 college scholarship to Truesdell from Brights Grove, ON, Canada. Truesdell is attending McMaster University in Hamilton, ON, Canada and majoring in Engineering.

And the final scholarship recipient is 18-year-old Josh Tyler from Adams, TN. Tyler is majoring in Agriculture at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, KY.

Determination for the scholarship is based on financial need, academic achievement, career plans, NRHA and NRHyA involvement, and references. All scholarship applicants met several requirements to be considered for the award. They filled out an application form, wrote an essay about what one experience through NRHA and/or NRHyA has had the biggest impact on their lives. Applicants also provided copies of their high school transcripts along with three letters of reference.
