Successful and Informative George H. Morris Clinic Held in California

by By Phelps Media Group | Dec 20, 2006, 11:45 AM

Karen Healey Stables hosted a clinic with renowned trainer and clinician George H. Morris on December 8-10, 2006 at Shelburne Farms in Hidden Valley of Westlake Village, CA. The clinic was organized by Karen Healey, the trainer and owner of Karen Healey Stables.

The clinic had three divisions of riders: open jumpers, jumper 3’9”-4’, and advanced equitation. Each division had three sessions over the three days of the clinic. There were 25 riders total, and the clinic saw over 40 auditors for the three days, including a group that traveled from Texas to watch. Many of the students at Karen Healey Stables participated in the clinic. “They started at a high level,” Healey explained. “It was not just basic position—it was top jumper and equitation groups.”

Healey’s relationship with Morris started when Healey was forging a new career as a professional. She worked for Morris for five years and learned not only the finer points of teaching horses and riders, but also his trademark no-nonsense style. Morris has taught clinics at Karen Healey Stables for over 10 years, providing West Coast riders and trainers the opportunity to learn from one of America’s best trainers.

“He’s just outstanding,” Healey stated. “Year after year, he is unwavering in his principles. They are ones that I adhere to as well. You aren’t hearing anything different, and it complements what I do.”

Morris is one of America’s top riders and trainers, and he is currently the U.S. show jumping chef d’equipe. His time is stretched between being the national coach and his clinics, so Healey was delighted to have him teach at her farm for the 10th time. “It’s always a privilege to have him and for him to travel here,” she said.
