The 17th Annual Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA) Stallion Season and Art Auction, which began with a Season Telephone Auction and concluded with a live auction at the Keeneland Entertainment Center on December 1, was a record-breaking event. Fasig Tipton auctioneers conducted the auction. "Since many seasons are still being sold, the results are not yet final. The
sales-to-date, however, are well in excess of $2,000,000, representing an increase of more than 30% over last year," said Liz Harris, Executive Director of TCA.
A star-studded crowd of 500 guests attended the event, and the bidding was spirited. A season to Bernardini was purchased by James B. Keogh, as agent, for $280,000, and a no guarantee season to Unbridled's Song was purchased by Fred Hertrich for $155,000. The Bernardini season was donated by Darley, and the Unbridled's Song season was donated by Taylor Made Farm and the syndicate. An Andre Pater original artwork was purchased by Kitty Taylor for $30,000, and the successful bidder at $10,000 for the Triple Crown Package was Donna Jones.
The event honored the Barbaro Team, including Roy and Gretchen Jackson and the New Bolton Vet Team headed by Dr. Dean Richardson, head of surgery at The George D. Widener Hospital for Large Animals at the University of Pennsylvania's New Bolton Center. They were awarded the TCA 2006 Distinguished Service Award with Joan Hendricks, VMD, PhD, The Gilbert S. Kahn Dean of Veterinary Medicine at Penn Veterinary Medicine, accepted the award on
behalf of Dr. Richardson.
Herb Moelis, President and Founder of TCA, stated that "most interesting and gratifying to me was that this was the first time Keeneland and Fasig Tipton have worked together on a horse-related event. This is truly a watershed event in our industry. Hopefully, this type of cooperation will carry over to other parts of our industry."
