by By Classic Communications | Oct 20, 2004, 11:23 AM

The red, white and blue were all over the Dixon Oval at the “Born in the USA” Awards at the 30th Annual Dressage at Devon Horse Show. High-scorers in 11 Breed Division categories were adorned with bright, patriotic rosettes and awarded a Certificate of Achievement, a stall plaque and a “Born in the USA” commemorative medal. The owners and breeders shared a generous purse in excess of $10,000, with 75% going to the owners, and 25% to the breeders. The two high scorers received sashes and coolers as well.

The 2004 filly Rumors, owned by Veronique Mallet of Churchville, MD, and bred by Angela Barilar was the overall high score winner with an 85.5%. Rumors is an Oldenburg by Rosenthal out of SPS Pijou. With an 84.1%, the 2004 colt Zulft, by Ulft Keur out of Marie Louise Elite was the second highest overall winner. The North American Dutch Warmblood is owned and was bred by Dr. and Mrs. Carlos Jimenez of Coatesville, PA. Both received coolers and neck sashes. The other “Born in the USA” winners were the yearling filly Royce (79%); yearling colt Rhinesilber (84%); two-year-old filly Valerie (82.1%); two-year-old colt Cabana Boy (79.4%); three-year-old filly Utopia (82.1%); three-year-old colt Constantin (78.8%); mare Ocita (78.75%); stallion Stoccato (77.5%); pony GlenhavenVarossa Valley (73%).

The “Born in the USA” Breeders Awards were developed by the Dressage at Devon Committee to recognize and reward the achievements of American breeders of Sport Horses. Horses conceived and foaled in the USA were eligible.

Brushwood Stable was the presenting sponsor. Breed Show Secretary Lori Kaminski, who was instrumental in creating the “Born in the USA” Breeders Awards, was pleased with the response that the awards generated, and the enthusiasm with which they were received. “Many breeders have expressed appreciation to Dressage at Devon for supporting their efforts in the development of sport horses. We hope that these awards will continue to recognize the achievements of American breeders.” Dressage at Devon plans to continue the “Born in the USA” Breeders Awards at the 2005 show, to be held September 27-October 1.
