In their second year of competition, the Global Champions Tour (GCT) has grown in size, prize money and prestige. With over five-million U.S. dollars in prize money and one-and-a-half hours of live television coverage by Eurosport of each €300,000 grand prix, the Global Champions Tour is truly taking the sport of show jumping to the next level.
The Global Champions Tour covers three continents and involves eight of the world’s most prestigious independent outdoor show jumping events: Palm Beach (USA), Cannes (FRA), Monte Carlo (MON), Estoril (POR), Sao Paulo (BRA), Valkenswaard (NED), Arezzo (ITA) and Athens (GRE).
The Global Champions Tour focuses on the world’s best riders and horses and provides them with the best possibilities for competing.
The exact dates of the 2007 Global Champions Tour, CSI***** are as follows. Six of the eight events also offer amateur classes.
Palm Beach*: March 14–18, USA
Cannes: June 14–16, FRA
Monte Carlo: June 28–30, MON
Estoril: July 19–21, POR
Sao Paulo*: August 2–5, BRA
Valkenswaard: August 23–26, NED
Arezzo: September 20–23, ITA
Athens*: October 3–6, GRE
*These two CSI***** events do not offer classes for amateurs.
Amateurs
In addition to the five-star events, there are five competition dates that will offer two levels of classes for amateur riders. The amateurs will have the opportunity to compete in the same arena as their show jumping heroes on the tour.
The schedules of the events also leave plenty of time to enjoy everything else these spectacular venues have to offer. Summers can be spent in the French Riviera or enjoying the Portuguese, Dutch and Italian hospitality.
