Lexington, KY—Completed applications for an American Saddlebred Horse Association (ASHA) Youth Scholarship are due in the association office no later than Monday, April 30, 2007. This fall, ASHA will award four $5,000 scholarships, as well as the Youth-to-Youth Scholarship, which is funded by donations and guaranteed to $5,000 by the Association. Additionally, one $2,500 scholarship will be awarded, which is funded by the American Saddlebred Association of Alabama.

Scholarships are available to any ASHA member in grade 11 or higher, age 21 and under, on the basis of academic success, financial need, extracurricular activities, community service, involvement with American Saddlebred horses and personal references. An interview may be included in the selection process, and applicants are asked to write an essay, which includes information about school experiences, special interests, hobbies, and ASHA activities. Scholarships are awarded only to high school graduates or those students whose graduation is imminent. The scholarship money will be paid directly to the institution, university, college, or trade school for post-secondary educational expenses.

Youth interested in applying for a 2007 ASHA Youth Scholarship may obtain application forms and additional information on the association’s website at the following link http://www.saddlebred.com/Youth-Scholarships. Individuals and groups interested in making a tax deductible contribution to the ASHA Youth Scholarship fund should contact Brenda Newell at (859) 259-2742 ext. 343 or at [email protected].

Saddlebred Mania
Back by popular demand, American Saddlebred Mania is returning for 2007. The program invites youth to decorate model horses, which are entered into the ASHA Annual Auction at the Kentucky State Fair World’s Championship Horse Show on Wednesday and Thursday, August 22-23, 2007. Prizes are awarded to each the individual and Youth Club with the most creative entry. Funds raised from the sale at auction of the decorated model horses support ASHA youth programs.

To participate, return to the Association the American Saddlebred Mania certificate received in the mail along with a payment of $5.00 to cover the cost of the model horse. For more information, contact Brenda Newell at (859) 259-2742 ext. 343 or at [email protected].
