Horse Show Receives County Funding

Canterbury May Days Qualifier coming May 5-6, 2007, has been granted funding in part from the Alachua County Tourist Development Council and Visitors and Convention Bureau and administered by the Gainesville Sports Organizing Commission. Manager Wendy Low announced today she was “very pleased to have the support of the GSOC and appreciates the contribution to make the event a huge success.”

The show is also governed by the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) and the United States Dressage Federation (USDF) and is a qualifier for Regional Championships this year being held in Ocala.

Competitors from Region 3 (TN, FL, GA, AL, SC,) will compete at dressage in all levels hoping to make it to the championships. This year the May Day Show held at Canterbury is also awarding $1,000 to the musical freestyle winners. Other show activities include a dog race, exhibitor and sponsor party Saturday night, a sales horse class, silent auction and stall decorating contest.

Spectators are admitted free during the weekend hours 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Canterbury is located in Newberry, FL, and is one of the finest horse show facilities in the south. From High Springs take 27/41 South into Newberry, turn left at the main light (SR26) then go 1 mile on left. From Gainesville, take SR 26 West 10 miles past I-75, Canterbury is on the right.
