The Norwegian Fjord Horse Registry (NFHR) announced a Registration Amnesty period from April 1, 2007, to May 31, 2007. During this period, Fjord horse owners will be able to register their horses at reduced fees.
A stated purpose of the NFHR is "establishing and maintaining a registry to collect, record, verify and preserve the pedigrees of purebred Norwegian Fjord horses." The NFHR has a duty to encourage Fjord Horse owners to register their horses.
"There appears to be a large number of unregistered purebred Fjord horses, and the NFHR is offering this amnesty period to encourage owners to register their currently unregistered Fjords," stated Mike May, NFHR Registrar. As an incentive, the NFHR is reducing all registration fees during the amnesty period.
In 1991, the NFHR held its first Registration Amnesty. During that amnesty, it experienced a 43% increase in its registered Fjords. Currently, there are 5,250+ registered Fjord Horses in North America. It is estimated that there are many more Fjord horses eligible for registration. All current registration requirements will remain the same during the Registry amnesty period.
NFHR-registered horses are eligible for participation in NFHR evaluations and award programs. Registration enhances a horse's value for breeding and in sales.
An amnesty fee schedule, registration rules and forms may be found on the NFHR website at www.NFHR.com, or contact Mike May, NFHR Executive Director and Registrar, at: Norwegian Fjord Horse Registry, 1203 Apian Dr., Webster, NY 14580; (585) 872-4114; fax (585) 787-0497; or e-mail [email protected].
