Syracuse, NY—David Raposa bested a field of 2004 Olympic athletes and fellow international riders to claim the highest score for the United States at the $75,000 Budweiser World Cup of Syracuse over the weekend. Coming in second place overall, atop Audi’s Fanny de la Tour, (Bay Selle Francais mare; Trias Du Gue—Alicia De La Tour; Shalamar Farm) Raposa jumped double clear rounds to secure his title. His jump-off round clocked in at a mere 31.21 seconds, less than two-tenths of a second behind the first place finisher, Eric van der Vleuten, of The Netherlands. This second place finish means an additional 17 World Cup qualifying points for Raposa, drastically changing his standing in the East Coast League from last week’s 16th place to a tie for 7th.

Other top five finishers from the East Coast League include Anne Kursinski on Eros (Chestnut Thoroughbred gelding; Family Ties—Tudor Success; The Eros Group) with a fourth place finish, and Kimberly Frey on Marlou (Chestnut KWPN Dutch Warmblood mare; Jus de Pommes—Hippy; Windmill Ranch, LLC) with a fifth place finish. Kursinski and Frey collected 13 and 12 World Cup qualifying points respectively, giving Frey the leverage she needed to retain her top ranking in the East Coast League. After seven competitions, Frey now has a total of 80 World Cup qualifying points, a mere seven points ahead of second-ranked McLain Ward.
