Officials with the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games (WEG) along with Dr. Pearse Lyons and airport officials unveiled new permanent signage at the Blue Grass Airport in Lexington, KY. The display designed by the Games’ advertising partner, Red7e, includes scenic landscapes from local photographer Doug Prather and highlights four of the equine disciplines that will be part of the 2010 WEG.
“These spectacular images are a great way to build and reinforce excitement in our community and to inform both every returning resident and visitor to our airport as to what they can expect to see here in 2010," said Jack Kelly, CEO of the World Games 2010 Foundation, Inc. “We thank the airport for their generous donation of this space to us. This is the kind of advertising you just can’t buy for an event like ours.”
“We are proud to be a partner of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games 2010,” said Michael Gobb, Executive Director at Blue Grass Airport. “More than one million passengers—both national and international—travel through Blue Grass Airport each year. This new exhibit will bring significant attention to the 2010 games and will beautifully showcase the disciplines of the competition.”
In a statement, Mayor Newberry added that the signage will be an additional means of promoting the brand that is the Blue Grass. “Lexington’s calling card in 2010 will be our scenic beauty as a showcase for the Games,” said Newberry. “Our visitors from around the world will see first-hand as soon as they get off their planes just how beautiful Lexington is.”
“We bring in visitors on nearly a daily basis—some of whom have never been to Lexington,” said Dr. Lyons. “Over the next few years, this signage will be an indication of why we choose to live here and grow our business here. It’s Lexington. It’s the Blue Grass. It’s the Games. And these magnificent signs depict it all.”
The Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games will be held September 25–October 10, 2010, at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. The event, which is held every four years, will host the crowning of world champions of the eight equestrian disciplines recognized by the International Equestrian Federation (FEI). The Games have never before been held outside of Europe; nor have all eight disciplines ever previously been held together at a single site. These are firsts that will be achieved at the Kentucky Horse Park. The 2010 Games are expected to have a statewide economic impact of $150 million. It is anticipated that more than 600,000 spectators will attend the 16-day competition.
