The 2007 National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Derby produced a new All-Time Leading Money-Earning Horse for the NRHA. Einsteins Revolution, owned by Wagner & Vandorp of Aubrey, TX, has earned more money at NRHA-approved events than any other horse on record.
KR Lil Conquistador, owned by Cheree Kirkbride, of Ocala, FL, is close behind. Einsteins Revolution (Einstein x Fly Flashy Jac) has earned $279,357, and KR Lil Conquistador (Conquistador Whiz x Smart Little Prize) has won $278,839. That’s only a $518 difference.
Winnings at the 2007 NRHA Derby helped propel both Einsteins Revolution and KR Lil Conquistador past the previous record holder, Smart Spook, owned by Rosanne Sternberg of East Sussex, England. Lifetime earnings for Smart Spook, a six-year-old Quarter Horse stallion, total $269,606.
Einsteins Revolution, a five-year-old Quarter Horse stallion, and NRHA Professional Ruben Vandorp of Aubrey, TX, most recently won the 2007 NRHA Intermediate Open Derby Reserve Championship.
NRHA’s All-Time Leading Money-Earner Shawn Flarida of Springfield, OH, and KR Lil Conquistador are also a winning pair. They were awarded the 2005 NRHA Open Futurity Championship, the 2006 NRHA Open Derby Reserve Championship and were also finalists in the 2007 NRHA Open Derby. KR Lil Conquistador is a six-year-old Quarter Horse gelding.
Flarida and Smart Spook (Smart Chic Olena x Sugarplum Spook) were awarded the 2004 NRHA Futurity Open Championship and the 2005 NRHA Open Derby Championship.
With NRHA memberships and approved shows at an all-time high, coupled with the earning power of today’s NRHA athletes, there’s little doubt about the worldwide drawing power and popularity that the sport of reining enjoys. If the first part of 2007 is any indication, more records will fall before year’s end.
