Georgie Green, member of the Board of Directors for The American Morgan Horse Association (AMHA) for 27 years, was honored with the National Pedigree Livestock council’s Distinguished Service Award at the annual meeting of the National Pedigreed Livestock Council (NPLC) in Fort Worth, TX, on May 9, 2007. The NPLC offers executive officers of the various non-profit breed associations of dairy, horse and pony, sheep, goat, swine and beef species the opportunity to interchange ideas and learn from one another. Being awarded the NPLC’s Service Award is an honor extended to those whose dedication to their chosen breed is exhibited through extensive altruistic endeavors. In 1980, Green joined the AMHA Board of Directors, and five years later, in 1985, she was named AMHA’s Woman of the Year. That same year, she was elected the first woman president of the organization, a position she held from 1985 to 1988 and again from 1993 to 1996. Aside from her role as president, Green has served on, and frequently chaired, six AMHA committees. She has also served on the executive committee for the World Championship Morgan Horse Show and was chair of the 2001 show. Green has served on the Board of Directors of the United States Equestrian Federation since 1996. Tyler J. Atwood, Resistrar for the AMHA calls Green “a true lady with the highest ethical standards and incredible dedication and commitment to the Morgan horse. The AMHA has benefited greatly from her efforts.” Green and her husband, John, own and run Road Show Morgans, one of the largest Morgan breeding facilities in Texas and one of the largest amateur operations in the United States. Her dedication to the first truly American horse is exemplified by her work to foster interest for pedigreed livestock in younger generations. Youth and horses are brought together in the Southwest each year through several events established by Green. Her civic engagements also include extensive participation on several educational boards.
