A barn fire killed 25 American Saddlebreds and one half-Saddlebred at 3-T Stables, owned by the Tabor family in Scottsville, KY, on the morning of Tuesday, June 19. By the time the fire was noticed just before 7 a.m. at 3-T’s broodmare barn, it had become a “raging inferno,” according to 3-T Stables’ Paige Tabor. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined. Eight new foals, along with one broodmare still in foal, perished in the fire. Among them were Callaway’s Alice Blue Gown and unborn foal, Indigo Rose and foal, Roseridge’s Not Easy and foal, Roseridge’s Phi and foal, Worthy Party Print and foal, Worthy’s Like Nothing and a 2006 gelding, Set My Sights. “We’re heartbroken. You hate to lose even one horse; when you lose this many, it’s a terrible, terrible thing,” said Paige Tabor. “When something like this happens, you either pick up and move on or quit. And we’re not quitters.” This is the second time in 14 months tragedy has struck at 3-T Stables. In April of 2006, Paige’s husband and Glyndle’s son, Randy Tabor, died in an explosion while working on an oil tank on the farm. Randy and his father built 3-T Stables into one of the most successful breeding operations in the Saddlebred industry. Glyndle and Randy Tabor are members of the American Saddlebred Horse Association Breeders Hall of Fame and were featured in the March/April 2002 issue of American Saddlebred magazine.
