The American Saddlebred Museum was awarded a Silver Telly at the 28th Annual Telly Awards for its film Out of The Shadows. The 30-minute film, which features black horsemen from the late 1800s through the 1970s, was chosen among 15,000 entries for the highest prize offered by the Telly Awards. The Tellys honor outstanding local, regional and cable TV commercials and programs, as well as video and film productions. Out Of The Shadows competed in the Non-Broadcast Category.

Produced by Museum Executive Director Tolley Graves and curator Kim Skipton, the film was nominated by Post Time Video. Skipton researched and wrote the script, which was narrated by long-time museum supporter Misdee Wrigley Miller. Minna Hankin Mintz provided sponsorship of the film in honor of her trainer Mike Spencer and her recently deceased World’s Champion five-gaited mare Spider Red.

“We are thrilled with this amazing award,” Skipton said. “The museum won a Bronze Telly for our Spindletop video, but to reach this level with Out Of The Shadows was beyond our greatest expectations. It is a testament to the hard work, dedication and professionalism of all who helped with the project.”

Out Of The Shadows is featured in the museum’s current exhibit, “Out of the Shadows: Bringing to Light Black Horsemen in Saddlebred History.” The exhibit and film can be viewed at the American Saddlebred Museum at the Kentucky Horse Park through December 30, 2007.
