The Equestrian Land Conservation Resource is Helping Horsemen Work Together

by By Carolyn Orr | Jul 5, 2007, 11:24 AM

Now located in Lexington, KY, next door to the United States Equestrian Federation at the Kentucky Horse Park, the Equestrian Land Conservation Resource is in its 10th year of helping horse people across the country with private and public land issues.

“When someone calls the office,” said Georgiana McCabe, President of ELCR, “they usually feel they’re the only one with a particular problem, because they haven’t had the advantage of networking with activists from other parts of the country.

“At ELCR, if we don’t have the answer to a question, we usually know someone who does. We work on land issues every day, and we have a broad network of contacts and information. Because of ELCR, horse people have become more successful in resolving local issues, such as those caused by development pressures, trail closures and creating new areas to show and ride their horses.”

ELCR is much more than an “organization;” it’s a knowledgeable group of committed people who are making a difference throughout the horse world by conserving and maintaining access to the land needed for riding, showing and simply keeping horses.

“Horse people need to learn the importance of working with each other,” said McCabe. “We need to develop stronger partnerships between many of the major discipline and breed organizations. ELCR is helping to do this as the only organization that represents the horse community as a whole when it comes to land issues.

ELCR is here to help you answer the question, “Where will you ride tomorrow?”
