First Annual Sporthorse Stallion Exhibition to be Held at the Raleigh Hunt Horse Complex

by By Maryanna Haymon | Dec 21, 2007, 11:23 AM

On January 5, 2008, the Raleigh Hunt Horse Complex will be the site of the first annual Sporthorse Stallion Exhibition. This location is convenient to the airport and major interstates, nearby hotels and dining. Even if you don’t breed horses, this event is going to be fun and educational—unique opportunity to see many different stallions all in the same place at the same time. Take this chance to meet those breeding stallions that you are considering for your mare for the 2008 season in person.

The disciplines of dressage, driving, eventing, hunters, jumpers and ponies will be represented by some of the finest stallions standing at stud today. Some stallions are old enough to have offspring, and they will have some youngsters there to highlight what they produce. Champions from every disciple will showcase their talents to music in an indoor arena.

Along with watching some of these stallions jumping and driving, musical freestyles will be performed for your entertainment.

Educational seminars addressing the nutrition of sport horses, genetics and the reproduction aspects of the species are being planned and speakers include Don Kapper of Progressive Nutrition, Jos Motterhead and Kathy St. Martin of Equine-Reproduction.com and Denny Emerson.

Dressage horses that are a result of breeding to these stallions are eligible for the “Born in the USA” awards offered at many United States Dressage Federation breed shows throughout the country, the most prestigious being Dressage at Devon. These offspring will also be eligible for the “BITUSA” performance awards offered by Marydell Farm at several shows as well. Horses that are conceived and born here in the USA are also eligible for futurities, including the FEI Young Horse classes at Devon.

There are possiblilities for hunter/jumper offspring to be eligible for the IHF/IJF.

Some of the stallions you will be able to see are:

· Don Principe - 2007 Third-place USEF Developing Horse Final, Intermediare I GIAG Champion, sire of many top 10 USDF Horse of the Year winners
· Donatelli - Grand Prix competitor with scores as high as 70% or more, dam sire of several approved stallions here and abroad
