North American Thoroughbred Society Launches 2008 North American Series Awards

Thoroughbreds and Riders Able to Gain Recognition for Achievements at National, Regional, Local Levels

The North American Thoroughbred Society (NATBS), a company that promotes the interests of Jockey Club-registered North American Thoroughbreds, today announced the first season of its North American Series Awards. The awards Thoroughbred participation as sport horses in all-breed, open shows in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico.

"The North American Series Awards is a wonderful program for allowing Thoroughbreds and riders at all levels to gain recognition for their efforts," said Lauren Mair, owner of Salt 'n Pepe. "Pepe and I competed at the Wellpride USEA American Eventing Championships in 2007, and I am thrilled to participate. I love my ex-racer and am proud to have his success acknowledged."

The North American Series Awards reward Thoroughbreds who compete in open, all-breed shows recognized by leading equestrian sport bodies at national and regional levels. National Affiliated Awards are for horses that show in events under the auspices of Cadora, Equine Canada, Federaçion Ecuestre de Puerto Rico, Fédération Equestre Internationale, United States Dressage Federation, United States Eventing Association, and/or the United States Equestrian Federation. Regional Awards are for horses competing in open, all-breed shows held under the auspices of a combined training association, a dressage association, or an annual local show.

Awards are presented when horses earning 20 points in their discipline(s) of choice during the competition year. The NATBS Rulebook with complete details is available at www.hellohorse.com, and winners will be posted on the site at the close of the season.

NATBS recognizes the achievements of Thoroughbreds, supports Thoroughbred breed classes, and fosters community for members for choosing Thoroughbreds as their valued sport and recreational horses. Award programs include the North American Series which covers all disciplines, Worldwide Trails Program, United States Dressage Federation All Breeds Awards, Wellpride USEA American Eventing Championships, Dressage at Devon IBC, Fair Hill Dressage Sport Horse Breeders, Kentucky Dressage Association Classics, Ole South Dressage Classic, and Parkland Festival.
