The Paso Fino Stallion Service Auction (SSA) is a program that runs in conjunction with the Breeder's Sweepstakes program. These programs are driven by generous donations by Paso Fino Horse Association (PFHA) members of breeding services to their stallions. The PFHA then manages the auction of these services to members that are interested in breeding their mares to these stallions. The resulting fees paid by the buyers of the breedings become the purse to be paid at the Breeder's Sweepstakes classes that take place yearly during the Grand National Show, with the participation of yearlings resulting from the breedings from the Stallion Service Auction program. Two Breeder's Sweepstakes classes are offered each year, one for yearling fillies, and the second one for yearling colts and geldings. Only offspring of participating stallions that received bids through the SSA are eligible to participate in the Breeder's Sweepstakes classes. The bids may be received by:

· An open bid during the Grand National Show. Bidding for breeding services to stallions that received bids during Nationals will be closed at the end of the National Show.
· Breeding services for stallions whose service was not sold during the National Show will remain open until March 1 (when payment is due) of the following year. These services may be purchased at half the stallion service fee or $500, whichever is higher, by sending a check to the PFHA office in care of the Stallion Service Auction program. These are sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
· Stallion eligibility to the Breeder's Sweepstakes classes for stallions that have not received bids after March 1 may be purchased by the stallion owner for $200 between March 2-31.

The stallion owner and the winning bidder will each receive one free nomination to a Breeder's Sweepstakes class. However, any member that has an offspring of an eligible stallion can participate in the Breeder's Sweepstakes classes by paying a $200 nomination fee per entry plus the class entry fee.

The PFHA annonced that the next two years the Breeder's Sweepstakes classes will pay a total of almost $40,000 each year.
