Attention Horse of the Year Champions

EQUESTRIAN magazine will publish its annual photo gallery and roster of national, zone, regional and district Horse of the Year champions in the March 2005 issue. Owners of Horse of the Year champions are invited to submit photos for publication in the photo gallery. Final standings will be available on the website on December 20, 2004. The mailing of notification letters will begin on December 20 as well.

There is no charge for publication of these roster photos.

Photo Guidelines
• Color prints
• Acceptable sizes: 8 x 10, 5 x 7, 4 x 6, or 3 x 5
• Any digital photos (at 300 d.p.i., 4 by 6, JPEG or TIFF) must come directly from the photographer and include all necessary information. No exceptions.
• Horse’s name, level (zone, region, district), and exact name of
division won must be included.
• Photographer’s name must be included.
• Return address and phone number must be included.
• If you are sending the only copy of the image that is available, please send by certified mail, FedEx, UPS, etc.
• If any portion of this information is not included, the photo will not run.

Not Accepted for Publication:
• Photocopies
• Home-scanned photographs
• Photographer’s proofs
• Slides
• Negatives

Photographer’s Release
All photos must be accompanied by a signed photographer’s release authorizing publication (unless the photographer has provided us with a blanket HOTY photo release). Any photos not taken by a professional photographer must be so noted. Some photographers require specific minimum sizes for photos submitted for publication; it is your responsibility to make sure the photo you submit meets any such requirements. Photos that do not meet these requirements will not be published.
NOTE: It is illegal to scan or otherwise duplicate a professional photo. Any such photos that we receive will not be published.

Multiple Awards:
Only one photo may be submitted per horse. If a horse wins more than one division, only one photo will be published in the appropriate zone, regional, or district gallery. If your horse has won multiple zone/region/district divisions, you must indicate which division and zone/region/district you want featured.

Photo Returns:
If you would like your photos returned, an appropriately sized self-addressed, stamped envelope (SASE) must be included. Photos with SASEs will be returned as soon as possible following publication.

Chronicle of the Horse Award Issue
All grand, national, and zone hunter/jumper Horse of the Year champion photos submitted to EQUESTRIAN magazine are automatically forwarded to the Chronicle of the Horse for publication. You do not need to send multiple copies of any photos. If you miss our submission deadline, the Chronicle will not receive or publish your USEF Horse of the Year photo.
NOTE: When choosing a photo to submit, please bear in mind that the Chronicle will print photos from the current (2004) competition year only.

Deadline:
All photos must be received in our office no later than January 21, 2005. (Photos received after this date cannot be included in the championship roster and will be returned. The Federation is not responsible for lost or misdirected mail.
