Kentucky Horse Council Offers Equine Association Risk Management Class

by By Essie Rogers | Mar 13, 2008, 2:53 PM

As part of its ongoing series targeted to equine leaders in Kentucky, the Kentucky Horse Council is offering a class titled “Risk Management for Equine Organizations including Insurance Protection.” The class will be offered on April 8, 2008, at the Kentucky Horse Park.

This two-hour class includes an overview of the types of exposures and risks that commonly occur on and around horse shows and equestrian organization events. Also included will be a review of the practices and procedures for handling the reduction of risk and compliance to regulations while living under the protection of the Commonwealth's Equine Liability Law. NOTE: This course may also include information relevant to horse farms.

The course will be taught by Wayne Hipsley of Hipsley & Associates. Hipsley & Associates has over 40 years of educational and practical experience in the business of horses, and provides horse legal expertise in a wide variety of areas.

“In today’s litigious society, all associations need to protect themselves and their members with appropriate risk avoidance practices and insurance when appropriate,” commented Kentucky Horse Council President Madelyn Millard. “This class will ensure that our Kentucky equine associations are sufficiently protected and therefore will enjoy a longer, more secure existence.”

All equine associations with paid memberships in the Kentucky Horse Council may send one participant to this class for no fee; all other individuals will be charged a tuition fee of $15.00, which includes all materials and instruction. The general public is welcome.
