Theodore O'Connor Receives a Special Treat from Farnam

by By Carrie R. Foote | May 22, 2008, 10:38 AM

Theodore O’Connor, the 2007 Farnam/Platform® USEF Horse of the Year, known as Teddy to his adoring fans, and his rider Karen O’Connor, were honored with a special treat at the 2008 Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event. The special treat was a pail of Platform® Treats with the winning pair pictured on the label.

Picturing the Farnam®/Platform® USEF Horse of the Year and his rider on the label of Platform® Treats is a tradition begun in 2006 with the inaugural winner of the award, Brentina and her rider Debbie McDonald. These labels are designed to follow in the spirit of the Wheaties® package which recognizes outstanding athletic achievements and personal championships.

This special pail of Platform® Treats was presented to Teddy and Karen O’Connor during an awards ceremony, which recognized the achievements of the United States Eventing team at the 2007 Pan American Games.

With his rider, veteran equestrian Karen O’Connor, Theodore O’Connor led the United States to a Team Gold in eventing at the 2007 Pan American Games. The pair went on to earn the Individual Gold medal in eventing. In addition to the Team Gold in eventing, teammates Philip Dutton riding Tru Luck won the Individual Silver medal and Gina Miles riding McKinlaigh won the Individual Bronze in eventing.

“Theodore O’Connor showed the world he has a heart of pure gold in competition last year,” said Chris Jacobi, Senior Vice President of Farnam Equine Products, sponsor of the Farnam®/Platform® USEF Horse of the Year awards program. “It is this spirit of dedication and exceptional talent for which the Farnam®/Platform® USEF Horse of the Year award was established.”

At 12 years of age, this 14.1-hand Thoroughbred/Arabian/Shetland was the first pony in history to compete at the Pan American Games. Owned by The Theodore O’Connor Syndicate, LLC, Theodore O’Connor is one of the most successful horses in the history of U. S. eventing—a discipline in which the horse and rider must compete in three equestrian events: dressage, cross-country, and show jumping.

Platform® Treats are part of the Platform® Feeding System, which was developed as the first and only feeding system consisting of five premium feeds, as well as complementary supplements that allow you to design your own feeding system to fit your horse’s individual nutritional needs.

Platform® Treats have a light and crispy apple flavor that your horse will love. They are perfect for training rewards and come in easy-to-use pails.
