The USET Foundation is pleased to announce that it is funding the 2008 United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) Show Jumping Developing/Young Rider Tour, which is part of the long-term high performance strategy to develop the best possible United States equestrian teams for the future.

The funds for the 2008 USEF Show Jumping Developing/Young Rider Tour were raised by the USET Foundation, thanks to generous donations from individuals who understand the value and importance of providing the international competition experience to the United States' young talent.

The five riders who will compete on this year's Show Jumping Developing/Young Rider Tour include: Michael Morrissey of Bradenton, FL, on Crelido; James Benedetto of Kings Park, NY, on Kannan's GiGi Z; Tracy Magness of Baltimore, MD, on Tarco Van Ter Moude; and Alexa Lowe of Upperville, VA, on Nadyleen; and alternate Jeanne Hobbs of Pinehurst, NC, on Night and Day. Selection of the riders was based on the rider's ranking on the USEF Computer List as of April 25. The riders on the tour were given a grant to help pay for the horse transportation. The funding will also cover a team veterinarian, chef d'equipe and various expenses associated with competing abroad.

The riders will be under the guidance of Olympic Gold medal-winning show jumper Melanie Smith Taylor, who will serve as chef d'equipe at CSIO**** Poznan in Poland June 5-8, the CSI*** Aach in Germany, June 12-15, and the CSIO**** Lipica in Slovakia, June 26-29.

“I am thrilled with the group of riders that has been selected for this tour. They are talented, enthusiastic and eager to spread their wings. These tours are invaluable to broaden riders' horizons both as competitors and horsemen,” said Smith Taylor.

The riders, grooms and chef d'equipe have gathered at the United States Equestrian Team's home in Gladstone, NJ, for their final training and preparation prior to shipping out to Amsterdam on Wednesday, May 28. Their pre-tour stop in Gladstone has provided an opportunity for these riders to gain valuable insight into the history and legacy of our U.S. equestrian teams and now includes them as part of the great riders and horses who have spent time in Gladstone and gone on to achieve competitive excellence in international competition.
