Patrick Seaton and Good Guiness not only won the $20,000 Bayfest Grand Prix the second week of the Woodside Summer Circuit, but Seaton also earned a $5,000 rider bonus for winning two of the three major jumper classes at the 2008 Woodside Summer Circuit aboard the same horse. If he can make it a hat trick by clinching the $30,000 Golden Gate Grand Prix, Seaton will be the first rider to claim the Woodside Jumper Accumulator bonus worth $20,000.

"When I started the Woodside Jumper Accumulator three years ago," said Larry Langer, President and CEO of Langer Equestrian Group (LEG), the company that produces the Woodside shows, "I wanted something that rewarded the riders in the biggest jumper classes. We started with $10,000 and every year the Accumulator goes unclaimed we add another $5,000." In 2006 Peter Breakwell managed to win two of the three big classes and earned $5,000 for his efforts.

Seaton and Good Guiness were one of only four pairs clean in the $10,000 Woodside Jumper Classic (June 21). He led off in the jump off, and no one could catch him. Peter Breakwell tried, but he had to settle for second with Lucas.

Last week at the Bay Area Festival, June 25-29, after jumping the night’s second clear round about Good Guiness, a 12-year-old gelding owned by Richard Konecky, Seaton almost did not get to come back for the jump off. On his second ride, Saderma, the two took a tumble at the water jump. Saderma appeared to hesitate at the water and then as she leaped it she caught the pole over the water between her front legs. Both horse and rider fell, but other than being sore and shaken Seaton was okay.

Duncan McFarlane led off the tie-breaking round aboard his veteran gelding Eezy, again Breakwell followed on Seaton’s heels, and again he had to settle for second. Amateur rider Sara Jorgensen rounded out the top three with her NZ Omni.

LEG has been putting shows on at the Horse Park at Woodside since 2000, and the facility has steadily improved. This year LEG added a permanent water jump, a Devil’s Dike (grob), and a bank complex to the Grand Prix ring. In addition, the new Bay View Club has been well received by competitors.

This week the Golden Gate Classic, July 2-6, wraps up the three week Woodside Summer Circuit with not only the $30,000 Golden Gate Grand Prix, but the $5,000 Children’s/ Adult Amateur Jumper Championship.
