Daniel Geitner and DFG Triumph in Grand Prix at Tryon

by By Cindy Grisolia | Jul 17, 2008, 1:44 PM

Daniel Geitner of the Aiken, SC-based DFG Stables, chalks up another one. At the Sixth Annual Tryon Riding Hunt Club Horse Show, Geitner and Sympa, owned by Mrs. Charles Bostwick, led the victory gallop in the weekend’s $15,000 Equestrian Sports Productions Grand Prix.

A field of 20 took on JP Goddard’s 15-effort challenge on Saturday, but only eleven returned for the seven-effort jump-off round, including Geitner aboard Sympa and also Snook, owned by Sara Stumburg. Geitner piloted both of the nine-year-old mares to double-clear rounds, but it was Sympa’s final time of 30.205 that bested the rest and earned the blue ribbon. Snook took third place.

“It’s always enjoyable for us here in Tryon,” said Geitner following the class. “It’s a great atmosphere with friendly competition. And Sympa has just been coming along so well. We’re really proud of her.”

Sympa also received the TRHC Farm House Perpetual Trophy.

In addition to the grand prix, Geitner was champion in the level 4 jumpers with CDS Stables Neville and also earned a slew of Tricolors in the hunter rings. He was both champion and reserve champion in the pre-green hunters three-foot with Jennifer Smith’s Daybreak and Wordly, respectively. And in the Morris Schooling Hunters, Geitner was champion with Cornelia Buckley’s Duncan, who was also reserve champion in the young hunter division.

DFG clients also had a memorable week in Tryon. Brian Gjetley triumphed in the Junior/Amateur Owner Jumper Classic on Sunday with his horse Piks Pistelero. The team also tied for the win in exciting Derbyshire 5 Bar on Saturday night, where fence heights reached five-foot, three-inches.

Rebecca Cameron, meanwhile, was reserve champion in the adult amateur hunters (18-35) with her horse London, while Tara Gail Bostwick and Libertas were reserve champions in the junior hunter combined.
