American Morgan Horse Association Youth Department Gears Up for Oklahoma

by By the American Morgan Horse Association | Sep 9, 2008, 1:33 PM

The American Morgan Horse Association (AMHA) Youth Department is preparing some exciting events for this year's Grand National & World Championship Morgan Horse Show. Applications to participate in AMHA Youth Club Contests are due September 15. If you are planning to attend the Grand National, please be sure to check out the amazing displays our youth present for these contests.

Also occurring during the show are both the National Youth of the Year Contest and the National Morgan Judging Competition. AMHA needs your help to make these events a success. Whether you will be in OOklahoma City or not, there are several ways you can support young Morgan enthusiasts.

If you plan on attending the show, AMHA has approximately 20 youth competing in the Youth of the Year Contest this year. One phase of this competition, the Horsemanship Test, requires the use of a Morgan for basic pattern work. Many of our youth are unable to bring their own horse. If you have a horse you can lend for a four- to five-minute pattern, please contact [email protected]. The pattern takes place on Saturday, October 11, at 7:30 a.m.

The Horse Judging Contest is one of the largest non-stock contests in the country and attracts more than 200 competitors each year, including 4-H, FFA, and collegiate teams. Horse volunteers are needed for in-hand, English pleasure, hunter pleasure, Western pleasure, and pleasure driving classes. For a time commitment of about 30 minutes, you will receive a LaSalle halter, a $25 cash reward, and recognition in an ad in The Morgan Horse magazine, not to mention great exposure to youth and adults from all breed backgrounds. The contest takes place Friday, October 10, between 8-11:30 a.m.

Not bringing a horse? How about volunteering your time? Volunteers are needed for various jobs during the Horse Judging and Youth of the Year Contest. No experience necessary and on-the-job training is available.

Join AMHA in supporting the Morgan horse's future ambassadors and industry leaders. For more information about the Grand National Youth of the Year Finals and Judging Contest, please contact [email protected] or call (802) 985-4944, ext. 18.
