by Joanie Morris | Sep 22, 2008, 9:11 AM

Raeford, NC - The Carolina Horse Park is pleased to announce the appointment of a new board of directors and management team to lead the Park to a new level of excellence. M. Nixon Ellis, of Southern Pines, President and CEO of Argolyn Bioscience, a lifelong horseman with deep experience in the hunter/jumper/equitation ranks and a former steeplechase jockey, has been named chairman of the board. Ten new directors in addition to eight existing directors will join Dr. Ellis.

This new board will oversee the expansion of the facility and the diversification of the competition roster to include A rated hunter/jumper shows, advanced level combined driving events and championship level dressage and eventing competitions as well as other equine and recreational activities. The Park strives to further leverage the rich and longstanding heritage of the North Carolina horse community currently challenged by loss of land for competitions.

Jane Murray has been appointed executive director of the horse park and will work with the existing staff, Andrew Ellis, Director of Operations, Dana Diemer, Director of Competitions and Gwen Parkins, Director of Internal Affairs. Jane, a long time competitor in equine sports, brings significant management and strategic planning experience to this new initiative.
