The first Laminitis West Seminar will be held on November 1, 2008, at the Monterey Convention Center in Monterey, CA. Presenters for the one-day seminar are James A. Orsini, DVM, Dipl. ACVS, of the University of Pennsylvania; Thomas J. Divers, DVM, Dipl. ACVIM, Dipl. ACVECC of Cornell University; and Patrick Reilly, farrier, of the University of Pennsylvania.
This seminar is an outgrowth of the International Equine Conference on Laminitis and Diseases of the Foot (ILC), which is held in West Palm Beach, FL, every other year. The fifth conference will be held next year on November 6-8, 2009. The ILC, in partnership with Steinbeck Country Equine Clinic and Dr. Tim Eastman and Dr. Nora Grenager, will present the one-day Laminitis West Seminar in California. Dr. Eastman is the Director of the Laminitis West Seminar, working in conjunction with Dr. Orsini, the Director of the International Equine Conference on Laminitis.
"The inaugural seminar on November 1, partnering with Steinbeck Country Equine Clinic, is yet another way to share the latest clinical and research information on laminitis and diseases of the foot," said Dr. Orsini. "This new knowledge will translate into improved clinical care for the horse as we take aim to 'Conquer Laminitis!'"
The plan for the Laminitis West Seminar on November 1, 2008, in California is to bring the latest information on laminitis, including diagnostic techniques, prevention, treatment, and pain management, to veterinarians and farriers on the West Coast. The presenting faculty will share case studies, with time after each presentation for discussion on related or other topics. The program topics scheduled range from the 'big picture' view of the disease, laminitis and systemic inflammatory disease to mechanical considerations and the dilemma farriers and veterinarians face in managing these challenging patients.
The Laminitis West Seminar has been approved by the American Association of Veterinary State Boards—Registry of Approved Continuing Education (AAVSB-RACE) to provide 8.5 hours of continuing education credits.
Space at the November 1 seminar is limited to 150 attendees. Veterinarians and Farriers may register for the Laminitis West Seminar online at www.steinbeckequine.com/laminitisconference.shtml. Veterinarians and farriers who register together can take advantage of a combination discount. The registration fee for the Laminitis West Seminar includes seminar materials, proceedings from the 4th ILC, break, luncheon, and cocktail reception.
