The Palm Beach Dressage Series introduces the new Derby Series Challenge. Bragging rights, prize money and a host of goodies will be on the line for the riders that rise to the top of their classes at the Palm Beach Dressage Derby and Dressage at Equestrian Estates. The Challenge Series awards will be presented to competitors with the highest averages in training level through grand prix, with an additional Challenge award, including a perpetual trophy, for the adult amateur high score in grand prix.

“We are always looking for ways to make the Derby Series more enticing for exhibitors,” said Horse Show Manager Evelyn O’Sullivan. “Being able to offer competitors an award for being the best at both competitions helps us recognize consistency in performances. Extra prize money is also a huge plus for exhibitors, and we look forward to handing out checks at the awards presentation on March 29.”

The prestigious Palm Beach Dressage Series begins with the Palm Beach Dressage Derby, CDI-W/Y, February 26–March 1, 2009, and concludes with Dressage at Equestrian Estates, slated for March 27–29, 2009. The two events draw top competitors from around the globe. With the new Challenge Series titles, added prize money and the chance to raise the competitive bar another level, the events offer a chance for dressage glory.

O’ Sullivan continued, “We hope that the Adult Amateur Grand Prix High-Score Award will become a highly coveted honor.” This perpetual trophy will be earned by the adult amateur grand prix rider who receives the highest average score in the National Grand Prix classes. The winner will receive a $500 prize, trophy, ribbon, championship sash and have his or her name added to the perpetual trophy. The additional high-score level awards for riders participating at both shows include $100 awards for training through fourth levels, $250 for Prix St. Georges/Intermediaire I and $300 for grand prix. The Palm Beach Dressage Derby is a dressage extravaganza unlike any other event of its kind in the United States. In its 26th year, the Derby is hailed as one of the best CDIs in the country and draws numerous international competitors. With more than $20,000 in purses and awards, incredible shopping and an atmosphere like no other, this is the one show that riders and owners aspire to during the Florida season. Both shows in the series are held at the Horse Park at White Fences Equestrian Estates in Loxahatchee, FL. The grounds, owned and maintained by Walter and Mary Anne McPhail, were specifically designed by Walter to host dressage competitions.
