In these tough economic times, many people are finding the quality warmblood they want is difficult to afford. Con Brio Farms, LLC, has just introduced a new program that could make it a little easier. In addition, those who find themselves with an unused stallion breeding to use, but no mare can also benefit.

Con Brio Farms, LLC, has been breeding Dutch Warmbloods, Oldenburgs and Hanoverians for 25 years, and their production record makes them one of only five breeders in the U.S., including Hilltop Farm, to have earned the ISR/Oldenburg N.A. Three Star Breeder Award. “We have produced hunters, event horses and FEI level dressage horses. Whatever your interest, I think we can help you produce a good riding horse,” said farm manager Kyle Karnosh. “We have very good quality, proven mares and we have the knowledge to help someone who is a novice at breeding. We tried to design a program that would make the process of producing a quality foal and riding horse easy and affordable—as turnkey as possible. In addition to mares, we also have facilities for foals and young stock. May people don’t have a safe place to keep their foal once it’s weaned and we can provide that.”

What does this program consist of? Basically the client pays the stud fee and breeding costs, plus a moderate board fee, insurance and farrier costs for the mare. The board covers basic vaccinations, worming and mineral supplements for both mare and foal.

“Included in the board fee is access to all of our years of experience,” explained Karnosh. ”We can provide guidance in stallion selection and consultation on any part of the breeding and raising process, as well as holding for the vet and farrier. In addition, once your foal is born, we can board your foal for whatever time period suits your needs. Take your foal home after weaning, stay until starting under saddle or anywhere in between.”

Con Brio also provides access to acclaimed reproduction veterinarian Dr. Deborah Harrison. Dr. Harrison is an FEI veterinarian, equine veterinarian breeding specialist, and national and international Sport Horse Breeding Judge. Top young horse trainer Ray Berta is available once a week to work with youngsters on everything from basic handling and manners to trailer loading and starting under saddle.

“Breeding is never risk free, but this is about as easy as we can make it, and I think it will be much more affordable for many people,” said Karnosh.”We’d like to help you produce that special horse.”
