There was no roll of the dice for junior rider Halle Salisbury and her Casino in the Marshall & Sterling Hunter Classic during the Colorado Circuit Preview at the Colorado Horse Park in Parker, CO (June 25-28). The youngster, who rides with Libby Barrow, had two horses in the event: Casino, the class winner, and Zhivago, who finished eighth in the class of 14. However, it was aboard Zhivago that Salisbury won the Marshall & Sterling Childrens Medal Class.

Amateur Joyce Baldwin was quite pleased with her performance in the Adult Amateur Hunters, 50 and over. She rode her Palmer to the win in two of the section classes and finished second in the stake class on her way to the tri-color. “We’ve had Palmer for about five years now,” she said. “He’s really fun to ride and will do just about anything. And talk about a personality! He chases the deer in our field!” Baldwin credits her trainer Keiri Kaneps with finding Palmer. “Keiri has brought us all the horses we have now,” Baldwin added. “She’s done a great job for us and that’s why we’ve ridden with her for nine years now.”

Kaneps also had a successful show with Brescia. Showing in the Regular Hunters, the pair topped three classes in the section, including a win in the stake class. And in the Amateur Owner Hunters, it was the very talented and ever-reliable Riff-Raff and Liza Dennehy claiming the tri-color with Briscoe and Gretchen Walker taking the reserve championship. The section had the name Dennehy all over it. Dennehy trains with her brother Charlie while Walker trains with Dennehy’s other brother, Michael. As an aside, Michael’s wife Gia also competed in the section.

Over in the jumper rings, Armando Hassey began his show tune-up with a win in the Low Junior/Amateur Owner Jumper Classic aboard Acordyno. The self-trained Hassey topped the class of seven and finished second in an Amateur Owner Jumper class as well. Acordyno was just one of four mounts Hassey showed in the jumpers. With La Roche, Hassey was second in an Amateur/Owner Jumper class while Lyseppe and Celabration were successful in some of the lower jumper sections.

Amateur Weatherly Stroh was back not only in the hunter ring but also in the jumpers where she rode her horse Lilly. Under the watchful eye of trainer Kris Nixon, the pair topped the class of nine in the Marshall & Sterling Jumper Classic. They also came away with a red ribbon in the AA Jumpers. West Side and Robyn Shnelvar (Vicki Hrdlikca, trainer) ran the cycle in the Low AA Jumpers by winning a first, second and third place on her way to a division championship over Mandy Kruse and Stand and Deliver (Tracye Ferguson, trainer).
